An unplanned expat blogger behind GrimavselKora

Hello, I'm Sofia
I’m a project manager, a parent, and an expat living in Lisbon, Portugal.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter of life overseas.
The Beginning
Moving to Portugal wasn’t part of the long-term plan. Like many expat relocations, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something much bigger.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, new expectations. Daily tasks felt more complex than they should.
The Transition Phase
There was culture shock, doubt, and a lot of learning by doing. Gradually, routines settled in. We found places that worked for us, met other families, and began building something that felt secure.
What Prompted Me to Create GrimavselKora
Most information online was either corporate relocation tips or surface-level tourism content. What was missing was an honest, day-to-day family perspective.
This site aims to fill that gap — practical guidance based on real life in Portugal.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site IS:
- Hands-on insights from living in Portugal
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever something truly changes
This site ISN'T:
- A resource for tourism authorities
- A platform for sponsored reviews
- Just a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in Portugal goes on, and so does learning. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep recording what we uncover.
If you have questions about family life in Lisbon or anywhere in Portugal, feel free to reach out.
Best regards,
Sofia
